Choosing an Affiliate Program

What should you consider when choosing an affiliate program? You need to think about two key things: what business are you in and what can the affiliate program provide to your customers.
No matter what business you are in, the largest investment you make will be customer acquisition. If you have your own product, and have acquired a base of satisfied customers, then single product affiliate programs could work very well for you.

However, if your business is acquiring customers for other businesses, that is, purely affiliate programs, then a better choice for you could be affiliate programs with multiple products or services. This will help you to capitalize on your investment in customer acquisition.
The key to choosing successfully is to ensure that the affiliate program offers products that meet the needs of your potential customers. Coupled with this is the need for the products to be high quality and for the supplier to provide excellent customer service. Remember, your credibility is on the line every time you refer someone to buy through your affiliate relationship.

Some of the other factors I consider when evaluating affiliate programs include:
Is the affiliate program a reputable business? You can check out a business you are considering a relationship with in variety of ways. Talk to the Better Business Bureau in your local area or a similar body. In addition, I find web sites that monitor affiliate programs to be worth looking at.
Does the program enable you to share in the lifetime value of the customer? Great programs will give you commissions on all future purchases of the customers you introduce. This is where the real profits are. These types of programs, in effect, allow you to partner with the supplier.

Does the program reward you for introducing other affiliates? This type of program is commonly referred to as a two-tier program. Often your customer may become an affiliate also and you will be rewarded for this.

Is the supplier interested in your success as an affiliate? The top affiliate programs engage in a process of coaching or information sharing to help you succeed. Affiliates are provided with regular newsletters outlining what is working for successful affiliates and providing updates and details on new products.

Is the commission reasonable? Commission rates on commodity products such as books and CDs are low. This is because there is very little margin in the products due to competition. Look for products that have a commission rate of 15% or more that are not commodities - that way you will be better able to recoup your customer acquisition investment.

Are statistics provided? The higher the level of statistics provided, the better off you are. This will enable you to measure the success of your marketing efforts and to determine the best places to invest your marketing dollars. Insufficient statistics is a sign that the affiliate program is not sufficiently interested in your success.

Are new products being developed regularly? To get the full value from lifetime commissions, new products need to be introduced on a regular basis. Without this, lifetime commissions can be worthless. Also, look for consistent high quality in new products introduced.

How frequently are commissions paid? The more frequently commissions are paid, the better off you are. Good quality affiliate programs will pay you monthly. In some situations, commissions are not paid until a certain level is reached. If the program you are considering has this requirement, check how many sales need to be made before the level is reached.

Have you read the affiliate agreement? This is a key area that you should look at. Some affiliate agreements are totally in favor of the supplier. Others are more balanced. Some agreements restrict your ability to promote similar products from other suppliers. Most agreements have anti-spam provisions. Look for agreements that are fair and that do not stack everything against you as the affiliate.

While there are other factors that can be considered when choosing an affiliate program, following the suggestions above will help you to make superior business choices that will lead to long-term success.

5. Ways you can market your business spending money little to no money.

There is an old saying “It takes money to make money” and that meant more money then you have. Well it helps to have money to get started in any kind of business. With money and marketing on the internet you can pay for click to quickly drive traffic to your site or affiliate’s site.
What if you don’t have any or have a small amount of money? Well there are other ways that you can make money today. No matter what your niche market is that you can drive traffic to earn money without spending money….

1. Use the technology of today’s world.

Starting a website is a good thing to do to start. There are plenty of sites you can go and get a free website. I do caution you that in most cases the sites will put an advertising banner your page that may drive your traffic away. Also there may be down time with these types of services and if you are new to website and web design the support you will get is poor. But at godaddy.com you can get a site with for little money and as I feel great support. They even have templates so that you can get your website up and running quickly.

Join an auto respond email service to keep in contact with your current and potential clients. The cost is not much and you will make more money by keeping in touch with your clients. Offer a free newsletter, eBook or savings that pertain to your niche product on your website and collect their name and email. Do not ask any other information at this time. Keep It Simple.
Set up 5 to 10 follow up emails that will automatic be sent to your potential clients though your auto responder. These can go out every day but if you have more then 5, I would send the last ones out every few days. You don’t want your potential client to feel that they are being spammed. There are plenty of sites you can go to get auto response email but make sure that they are reputable company like getresponse and aweber. It is important that you use a good email service because if you emails do not get delivered then you will lose money.

Write articles about your niche market. You should write as many articles as you can. Write 10 articles a week. Do not summit the same article each article site. This does not mean you need to write several articles just change the wording in each article you write. If the search engines see the same wording they will not rate your article and consider spamming. Remember that you are writing these articles to potential customers know that you an expert in your niche. Make a name for yourself… Don’t try to sell in your articles; write about your niche product. Let readers know that you are an expert. Put a link in your bio back to your webpage. This will help you webpage ratings with the search engine. You can even email your articles to your customers letting them know that you are interested in keeping them informed about your niche. This builds trust with them. No one will trust you if you just sell them. To find where to submit articles you can just do a Google search.

Get a blog. Blogs have become very popular and a great way to get your information out. Like articles do not sell but write about information about your niche product. Here too is a great way to link to your webpage. You can even put Google ads on your blogs and make extra money from them. You can get a free blog at www.blogger.com. You can use you article that you wrote as a blog entry, this will save you time. Don’t forget to let you email customers know when you have posted a new blog. Remember you want to build trust with your clients and let them know that you are an expert. If you do a blog a week then that is letting your customer know each week that they are still important to you and you are still the expert. This kind of communication between you and your customer will build trust.

2. Be an expert
Teach an adult education course, talk at service oriented business, local schools and churches will help convince potential customers that your are an expert in your field. You can also hold you own seminars at libraries, restaurant function, friend’s office or the chamber of commerce. Just use your imagination on how come in contact with people and let them know you are an export and get their trust to use your services.

3. Join An On line Social Club
You can join My Space and let other members know about you and your website. Also Join forums about your niche product. Comment or write a new post using your website in your signature. This will also help with your search engine optimization. To find a forum about your niche product you can again do a Google search “niche product forum”.

4. Advertise
Place ads online for free. Write compelling ads and place them for free at free advertising sites like usfreeads. At usfreeads you can place free ad or join their membership for a small fee and place HTLM ads to make your ads more compelling. Remember to make the potential customer feel that you can solve their problem if the buy from you. This is the most important advice I can give you about ad writing. Besides usfreeads you can place your ads in these other advertising sites like free ad post and free classifies . To find more on line classifies just do a Google search.

5. Off Line Advertise
There are several places you can advertise you web or blog to get more customers. You can pay for ad space in a local paper. I will mention that this usually does not pay for it self with giving you customers in most cases

Put a bummer sticker with your web name on it on your car, your friend’s car or any other car you can get it on.

Post signs on the road side. Make a sign you know like the ones you see for yard sales. If you can afford it have a sign place make you one. They are not that expensive and you will look more professional. Pick a busy intersection or street; the best spot is by a stop sign or light so traffic will stop to read it. Once you have your spot just place your sign in the ground facing traffic of course.
I hope you take at least one useful tip away from this article. If you do, and if you continue to put a lot of effort into your affiliate marketing, there's no limit to what you can achieve. Be the best in your field. Get a website, be an expert, Publish quality material, Blog regular. The rewards will come soon enough. I promise.
